Football Identity
Football Identity (What we want to be known as)
Our football program will be known by the pillars above and how good of job we do implementing them. If we can make our players the best man they can be, then that will translate to good football players. When people look at our program or after they have played us I want them to see those pillars reflecting in our coaching and in our players. We also want to be physical, tough, explosive, simple, fundamentally sound, disciplined, have great effort and composed.
Physical
Football is a physical game. Most of the time the team that is more physical will win the game. We want our players to be physical all over the field but especially up front. Our offensive and defensive lines will own the physicality of the game. We want them to be more physical than the guy across from them and dominate the line of scrimmage.
Tough
Mental and physical toughness is a big part of football as well as life. Our players will have the physical toughness to play an entire game with great effort, but also the mental toughness to now let the ups and downs of the game get to them. Mental toughness is an integral part of being successful.
Explosive
On offense we want to get the ball to explosive players in space and be able to score from anywhere on the field. We want to execute big play opportunities when given the chance.
On defense our explosiveness will show with our style of play. We want to play fast and make the offense make mistakes. Turnovers and big plays on defense will change the momentum of the game and a lot times change the outcome.
Simple
Many times coaches can over complicate the game of football. It does not matter how great your game plan is if your players cannot execute. We want to keep it simple enough for our players to be able to make plays and not make mistakes. We want our players to play fast and explosive. As coaches we can help them with that by keeping it simple.
Fundamentally Sound
We want to take care of the small things and the big things will take care of themselves. Our players will be in the right position to make plays based on our scheme. We want to limit penalties and mistakes. We will coach situations for our players so they know how to respond in those scenarios. Our program will coach every detail and maximize reps in practice, so in a game it becomes routine. We want to control the clock and take care of the football.
Disciplined
Being one of our pillars our players should know what discipline means. We want our players to show discipline by limiting negative plays (i.e. penalties, turnovers). Discipline will also show in how they play. Our players will be coachable and execute the way their coach has asked them to.
Compete with Character & Effort
How we play is just as important as winning or losing. We want our teammates to be unselfish and play for each other. They need to understand that their teammates are expecting them to give their best effort every play. Choosing character in tough situations will allow us to field the best team possible. By competing with great character and effort the score will take care of itself.
Composure
Don't Flinch. We will stress to our players not to flinch when things go bad or when things go well. Some things we cannot control therefore we do not need to worry about that. We must not lose our composure and stay even keel throughout the game.
