Football Pillars

Pillars of Success

Our football program will first and foremost be used to grow young men.  Our goal is to make our players the best man they can be and that will translate to a good football player on the field.  The game of football is closely related to life with ups and downs and successes and hardships.  In life and in football you have to start with a foundation when you are trying to build something.  These pillars will serve as the foundation for our program, which we will be able to build our success on.

Character - Your character is defined by what you do when no one is looking.  We will instruct our athletes to choose character and have high standards and ethical conduct in their decisions on and off the field.  Part of character is also having composure when things go well or when things go bad.  This is the first and most important pillar of our foundation.  Character is a part of all of the other pillars.  Without having good character you cannot be committed, or be unselfish, etc.

Faith - Having faith in something other than yourselves takes a lot of discipline and hard work.  We will teach our athletes to have faith in their teammates and themselves throughout their time together.  Faith, religious or not, will be your guiding rudder in life.

Unselfishness - Being an unselfish teammate is probably one of the hardest elements to teach.  We are born as selfish people.  We must be able to enjoy others' success even when we do not experience success ourselves.  Being unselfish will show when you realize that your success can come from helping others achieve their goals.  Selfish teams will have a lot bitterness towards each other, and that can take down a program.

Loyalty - Loyalty is a strong feeling of support towards something or someone.  We will expect our athletes to be loyal to the program as well as each other.  Your teammates need to know that you will be there for them in both the good and the bad.  Loyalty to a football program means that you are counting on others but also others are counting on you.

Discipline - This will encompass so much of a football players life.  Having discipline is knowing what is right and wrong and choosing what is right.  We will teach our athletes to choose right every time.  You will not always be liked or might be made fun of but your discipline will show through.  Discipline in the classroom and the football field is paramount to being successful.

Commitment - This will be tied to your loyalty.  To be committed to something you have to be all in.  Our football program will stress the idea that we all need to be in the same boat.  You cannot be committed to something halfway.  Having your word mean something in life is almost a lost art.  We want our players to understand that if you say you are going to do something then you must complete that.  Commitment takes accountability.  We will hold our players accountable and they will hold each other accountable to their commitments.

Effort - Effort takes zero talent but will make all the difference in the world.  Our program will expect athletes to give their very best effort in everything they do.  That can be in the classroom, on homework, in the weight room, or on the football field.  Anyone that is successful in life has shown great effort to get there.

Respect - Having respect for others actions and words is an important part of life.  We will teach our athletes that you may not agree with someone but you will respect that person.  Also, having respect for the authority figures in your life.  Most people in life will have a boss of some kind and need to respect their decisions.  This includes their classmates and teammates.  Respecting someone means that we will not talk bad about that person behind their back.

Attitude - All of these pillars will reflect in a player's attitude.  Players' attitudes are a reflection of the program.  We want our players to have a positive attitude in football but also life.  We will stress to them that they are influencing people positively or negatively with their attitudes.  Attitude is contagious, and a positive attitude can go a long way to achieving your goals in life.
